Christian Horner SACKED by Red Bull in shock F1 departure

An official announcement is expected today.

Christian Horner has been sacked by Red Bull after over 20 years with the company.

So far in the 2025 season, Red Bull have endured a tough campaign as they continue to trail behind the likes of Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren.

Horner has also been involved in an early driver change, with Liam Lawson being replaced by Yuki Tsunoda after just two races.

Amid the current Red Bull struggles, the future of star driver Max Verstappen continues to dominate the headlines.

The Dutchman currently sits third behind McLaren duo Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri and has been linked with teams such as Mercedes and Aston Martin.

On the back of a disappointing British Grand Prix at Silverstone, it has been claimed that Horner's time as team boss and CEO is set to come to a close.

As reported by Daily Mail, who claimed: "Christian Horner is set to be sacked as the boss of Red Bull. An announcement is expected in the next hour."

Dutch journalist Erik van Haren wrote on social media: "The bomb has dropped at Red Bull Racing. Team boss and CEO Christian Horner has been sacked after more than 20 years. Staff in Milton Keynes have just been informed."

The report from De Telegraaf added that Horner is being 'held responsible' for the team's poor results.

Horner's dismissal came after an emergency meeting between Thai Chalerm Yoovidhya and Austrian Mark Mateschitz, who jointly own shares in the energy drink company, and sports director Oliver Mintzlaff.

SPORTbible has contacted Red Bull Racing for comment.

Who will replace Christian Horner?

Earlier in the year, Horner's position was already under threat after a poor start to the season.

Names such as Mattia Binotto and Oliver Oakes were picked out as potential replacements for Horner.

Binotto is currently in charge of the Kick Sauber team, who have experienced a recent upturn in fortunes, with Nico Hulkenberg scoring a brilliant podium finish at Silverstone.

However, it has since been confirmed that Racing Bulls team principal Laurent Mekies has taken over at Red Bull, with Alan Permane taking over from Mekies at VCARB.

What have Red Bull said?

Director Mintzlaff said: "We would like to thank Christian Horner for his exceptional work over the last 20 years."

"With his tireless commitment, experience, expertise and innovative thinking, he has been instrumental in establishing Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and attractive teams in Formula 1. Thank you for everything, Christian, and you will forever remain an important part of our team history."
