Details of the heartwarming gift that Mercedes sent to Nico Hulkenberg after he claimed at shock podium at the British Grand Prix have been revealed.

As always, the iconic British Grand Prix delivered this season, hosting what was undoutedly the most exciting race of the 2025 season, with McLaren star Lando Norris claiming victory in his home race, ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri.

Despite entering the race as one of the favourites, seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton finished the race in fourth, setting an unfortunate record while ending his impressive record of podium finishes at Silverstone.

However, the biggest story of the race came from much further down the 2025 season standings, as Kick Sauber driver Hulkenberg finally ended his long-running record as the F1 driver with most races without a podium finish, coming third at Silverstone.

Hulkenberg's spectacular finish was immediately celebrate by fans across the world and his peers at Silverstone, including Mercedes who sent the German a special gift to congratulate him.

After a disappointing qualifying session saw him start the race in 19th, any suggestion that Hulkenberg would finish in the top half, let alone on the podium, seemed unlikely.

But the 37-year-old expertly navigated difficult weather conditions and several safety cars to secure Sauber's first podium since Kamui Kobayashi got third place at the Japanese GP back in 2012.

And now it's been revealed that, in order to help them celebrate, Mercedes decided to send Hulkenberg and the Sauber team a special gift package full of bottle of champagne after the race.

Alongside the gift, Mercedes left a message, stating: "Congratulations on the first podium. - Your Mercedes Team."

Of course, champagne bottles have become an iconic part of Formula One, with the three drivers who finish on the podium of each race given one to spray as they celebrate their achievements.

And, given the fact that they started the race with drivers in 17th and 19th, it's likely that Sauber didn't bring any bottles with them to Silverstone as nobody could have anticipated the spectacular finish that Hulkenberg managed.

Meanwhile Mercedes, who have won the British Grand Prix 10 times, will have absolutely packed some champagne, and George Russel finishing 10th and Kimi Antonelli withdrawing early, it appears they were happy to give them to Hulkenberg.
