PDC Respond After Sky Sports Scoreboard Error In World Darts Championship

The Sky Sports scoreboard made a mistake during coverage of Justin Hood’s second round win over Danny Noppert.

The PDC issued a cheeky response after Sky Sports suffered a scoreboard mishap during the World Darts Championship.

The final day of action before the Christmas break took place on Tuesday, where they were a total of eight second round clashes across the afternoon and evening sessions.

Callan Rydz, Peter Wright, Gary Anderson and Michael van Gerwen were in all action but the biggest surprise came when Justin Hood, ranked No.86 in the world, beat world No.6 Danny Noppert 3-2 to reach the third round and set up a meeting with Ryan Meikle.

Hood beat Nick Kenny to advance to the second round in his debut in the world championships and raced into a 2-0 lead against Dutchman Noppert.

However, there was a technical error during Sky's coverage of the fixture.

Hood correctly checked out with double eight to win the leg but there was confusion amongst viewers as the Sky graphic suggested that Hood required double four.

The graphic had miscalculated and on commentator, Dan Dawson confirmed that Hood quite rightly threw double eight.

The quick fix on production was to remove Sky graphic and replaced it with a large green PDC one in the bottom right corner - leading to one user writing, "What the hell is Sky doing with this scoreboard change for Noppert-Hood?".

Eventually the Sky scoreboard did return and the official PDC account could not resist a dig at the mistake, taking to X to write: "Even the scoreboard has gone home for Christmas...".

Hood and Noppert played out a thrilling contest but there was another scoreboard change in the deciding set, with the green graphic making a return.

The classic went all the way to sudden death, with Hood finally picking up the biggest win of his career with a 78 finish after missing a match dart on the bull.

"It was a good game and I knew it would be because Danny is a class player," Hood told Sky Sports after a win which saw Noppert becoming the highest-ranked player to be eliminated from the 2026 tournament.

"I don't worry about the pressure, I just throw the darts and if it's good enough, it's good enough. Tonight it was."
