A darts player leaked his own payslip in a revealing social media video to show how much they earn from the World Darts Championship.

The 2026 World Darts Championship is officially underway as defending champion Luke Littler got his defence off to the perfect start with a straight-set victory over Lithuania's Darius Labanauskas on Thursday.

On Friday, Ricky Evans, Damon Heta and Gian van Veen, who has been tipped to challenge Littler, all booked their spots in the next round of the competition.

Littler is the favourite to win the World Darts Championship after enjoying a remarkable season, having won the World Matchplay, the World Grand Prix, the UK Open and the Grand Slam of Darts.

The 18-year-old will be aiming to win the £1 million jackpot, with the PDC doubling the prize money from last year's event.

Naturally, the prize fund all the way down the World Darts Championship has also increased.

But former player Matthew Edgar revealed there are 'deductions' that come off your final pay.

He took to social media to explain how the payment structure works when he competed at Ally Pally.

Edgar made three appearances at the World Darts Championship, reaching the first round twice and then getting to the second round in 2021.

He earned a total of £30,000, which was made up of two £7,500 payments and one worth £15,000.

But after sharing his official remittance notice from the PDC, Edgar explained that there were figures which reduced the fee he walked away with.

"That doesn't mean what you get paid as a player," he said.

"There are deductions which need to come off this. All PDC players are self-employed contractors, not employees of the PDC and so we get remittance notices. We get deductions, two per cent is your PDC levy - that comes off everything before you even get it and comes from playing on the Challenge tour to being world champion.

"We all pay two per cent on our prize money before we even get it. Not only that, you've got to consider your membership fees - £500 is your membership which goes before you even get it. That's a once a year fee and your DRA fee as well.

"£6,800 is what came into my bank account from the first round defeat. From that, I've got to deduct my travel, my hotel and any other costs with that. Then, the money that is left is open to tax."

What is the 2026 World Darts Champions prize fund structure?

As mentioned, the PDC have upped their prize money for the 2026 World Darts Championship, with the winner in line to picket a cool £1,000,000.

And it trickles down all the way to the round one losers.

Round one losers - £15,000

Round two losers - £25,000

Round three losers -£35,000

Round four losers - £60,000

Quarter-finalists -£100,000

Semi-finalists - £200,000

Runner-up - £400,000

Winner - £1,000,000
