Luke Littler reveals his first huge purchase after smashing £3m prize money barrier with World Matchplay win

Luke Littler has revealed what his first major purchase will be after becoming the first darts player in history to pass £3 million on the two-year Order of Merit.

The two-time reigning world champion defeated Gerwyn Price 18-9 to win his second World Matchplay title at the Winter Gardens on Sunday.

He averaged 111.57 in the final, a touch above his staggering tournament average of 111.04.

That puts him second on the all-time list, with Phil Taylor's tournament average of 111.54 at the 2009 European Championship - albeit where fewer legs were played - out in front.

Littler dominated in Blackpool and the closest he was to being threatened was in the first round against Germany's Niko Springer, when the pair went into the second break at 5-5 in a race to 10. 'The Nuke' won five of the final six legs to secure a 10-6 victory.

The 19-year-old has now won all four of the ranked TV events he's entered this year, as well as the World Cup and the Premier League of Darts.

There are four more majors to go this season - though one of those is the Players Championship Finals, which he still needs to qualify for in the coming weeks - as well as the World Series Finals and the World Youth Championship, should he choose to enter the latter.

Littler is so far ahead of the rest of the darting field that he could take the rest of this season off, as well as the entirety of next season until the World Championship, and still be ranked at world number one.

According to a report from the Daily Mail back in January, Littler spent most of his record £1 million winnings from the 2026 World Championship on a five-bedroom property for his parents in Cheshire.

"It's not a bad Christmas present for them, but it's only what they deserve having done everything to help him get where he is today," a source told the outlet.

This time around, Littler has his eye on a gift for himself after winning the World Matchplay - a brand-new car.

He joked that he needs to upgrade on his BMW 1 Series as it isn't powerful enough.

"I'm looking at a new car," Littler said. "Don't know what to get yet. I need some more brake horsepower - 170 is not enough!"

He will now skip a family holiday in the days following his victory over Price, as he previously said that he would attempt to qualify for the Players Championship Finals if he won at the Matchplay to keep up his hopes of completing darts' clean sweep.

That means a trip to Leicester for Players Championship 27 and 28 in August, while there are four more events in Leicester and Wigan after that.

Littler hasn't yet played a single floor event this year, and will need to climb into the top 64 of the rankings to qualify for the Players Championship Finals.

The final qualification spot is currently occupied by Brendan Dolan, on £22,750 in prize money, with eight events left. The winner of each event earns £15,000, with the runner-up pocketing £10,000 and the semi-finalists £6,000.

"Obviously we planned the holiday before the Matchplay," he laughed. "We just said, it is what it is, if we win or lose. Now we've got to make that commitment and go to Leicester, go to the ProTours."
