Luke Littler has made history once again by shattering a historic record set by Phil Taylor more than a decade ago.

On Sunday night Littler brushed aside Gerwyn Price to retain his World Matchplay title in a one-sided 18-9 win in the Empress Ballroom at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool.

His victory means the 19-year-old became just the fourth person to win back-to-back Matchplay titles, following Rod Harrington, Taylor and Michael van Gerwen.

Throughout the week it looked inevitable that Littler would again win the World Matchplay, averaging 109 or better in all five matches during a week of dominance that saw him continue his run of winning every PDC TV major in 2026.

And it was undoutednly the final that saw the Englishman put in his best performance of the week, as he averaged 111.53 against Price, breaking Taylor's record of 111.23 against Adrian Lewis in 2013.

Littler established an early lead in the first mini-session as an impressive 167 finish in the fourth leg helped him head into the break 4-1 ahead.

The second mini-session was just as one-sided as an average of 114.74 saw him go into the next break leading 8-2.

Although his form dropped towards the end of the match, he held on to ensure that he was once again named World Matchplay champion this year.

In doing so he broke another of fellow darts great Taylor's long standing records as his stellar performance saw him finish the week with an average of 111.04 smashing Taylor's record of 106.31, set in 2010.

Unsurprisingly, Littler's performances in Blackpool this week saw him break plenty of records.

Heading into the final the darts superstar had already made history as his semi-final demolition of Dirk van Duijvenbode secured his place as the first player in PDC history to win £3million in prize money.

Having beaten Price in the final, Littler's total career earnings have now risen to a massive £3,143,500 in total, putting a massive £2m gap between himself and Luke Humphries, the world No 2.

Littler also broke his own tournament record for most 180s this year, hitting the maximum score 66 times across his five matches at the World Matchplay.

This saw him surpass the record he set last of 64 180s across the week.

"It's been a crazy week, one of the best weeks of my life with the darts I've played," Littler told Sky Sports after his win.

"It's been tough, the stats may look like it's easy but when you're on this stage with how hit it is, it's not easy.

"I have played some of the best darts of my life.

"Two years ago, I had that first round defeat to Michael which was not the best result, The last two years, I have come here with the family and we have done it again.

"It is definitely, I feel like it is the best version of myself.

"I have just been playing so well."

Littler is now expected to take some time away from the oche before returning for two Players Championship events in Leicester next month.
