Rangers name record-breaking price for Youssef Chermiti after rejecting huge Galatasaray offer

Rangers have reportedly demanded a record-breaking sum of money, enough to break the Scottish transfer record, from Galatasaray for the sale of star player Youssef Chermiti.

The Süper Lig is enjoying an affluent summer transfer window in terms of high-profile signings — the largest of which being Liverpool and Premier League legend Mohamed Salah making the move to Trabzonspor.

The 34-year-old was in line to join departing Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard at Beşiktaş, however, Trabzonspor offered a lucrative deal to Salah that is expected to make him the highest paid player in Europe after tax.

As a result, Trabzonspor matches, and the Super Lig in general, are expected to be watched across the globe by more fans than ever during the 2026-27 season, and Galatasaray are the latest side to attempt a high-profile transfer swoop, with Rangers being the target.

That is for Chermiti, one of the Scottish Premiership’s finest talents, who scored 15 goals and bagged five assists for the club in 30 league appearances last season.

It is rumoured that other clubs have been motivated this summer to make expensive purchases in pursuit of stopping Galatasaray winning an unprecedented fifth Süper Lig title in a row, but the defending champions won’t back down easily.

Rangers demand Scottish record transfer fee for Chermiti, as Galatasaray look to retain Super Lig crown

Chermiti transferred to Rangers for a fee of £7.5 million from Everton in September 2025, and took his new league by storm with 20 goal involvements in 20 Scottish Premiership starts.

According to Yağiz Sabuncuoğlu, a Turkish transfer expert, Galatasaray made a verbal offer of €25 million for the striker, which was rejected. Instead, the Scottish side are demanding a €40 million transfer fee to part ways with their superstar.

This was confirmed by Rangers manager Derek McInnes, speaking to BBC Scotland. Chermiti was stretchered off in yesterday’s 2-1 loss to Hibernian, just four days prior to the club’s upcoming clash against Jagiellonia in Europa League qualifying.

The striker left the ground with his knee in a brace, and was slated to have a scan today that would determine the extent of the injury. McInnes praised Chermiti for his intelligent runs and energy throughout the match, and hopes for "a bit of luck" in the results of that scan.

“I'm led to believe the club's valuation of the player hasn't been met”, said McInnes; the €40 million fee demanded would break the Scottish record transfer fee should Galatasaray be willing to meet it.

According to Transfermarkt, Matt O’Riley’s move from Celtic to Brighton ahead of the 2024-25 season remains the record, in a deal worth €29.5 million.

The Süper Lig champions’ rivals, Fenerbahçe and Trabzonspor, are reportedly working on deals to secure the services of Romelu Lukaku and Darwin Núñez respectively.

The latter would reunite former Liverpool team-mates Núñez and Salah. Nathan Ake, Mason Greenwood and Trossard are three other notable ex-Premier League players that made Süper Lig moves this summer.

The deal for Greenwood, who moved to Fenerbahçe alongside Ake, amounted to €40 million.
