Jake Paul: ‘I Think I Might Just Be The New Floyd Mayweather’

“I'm gonna be one of boxing's biggest stars,” promises YouTuber.

Jake Paul claims he is ready to take 'Money' Mayweather's spot as the biggest star in boxing, boldly claiming: "I think I might just be the new Floyd."

Excuse us while we sit down and take this in. The YouTuber moved his pro boxing record to 2-0 as he brutally knocked out Nate Robinson on the undercard of Mike Tyson's exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr on Saturday.

Filled with confidence, Jake Paul has called out Conor McGregor for a fight and - even more eye-openingly - has said he can fill the shoes of former pound-for-pound king Mayweather.

"I'm a pro boxer and I'm here to stay," said Paul per BoxingScene.

"When you put those 10-ounce gloves on me, I'm vicious, I can hit. I'm a real dog. When these MMA fighters come into the ring, they're gonna meet 'The Problem Child'. They're gonna meet me.

"I'm here to make millions of dollars and sell millions of pay-per-view and I'm gonna be one of the biggest stars. I think I might just be the new Floyd [Mayweather]."

One thing Jake Paul and Mayweather do have in common is an unbeaten record. But while Floyd's 50-0 ledger came by defeating Miguel Cotto, Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya and other fellow greats, Paul's has come by knocking out a former NBA player and fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib.

So you have to say there is a slight difference in opponent quality there.

Jake's older brother, Logan, has actually been engaged in an online beef with Mayweather with some predicting it might actually end in a Logan Paul vs Floyd Mayweather fight in 2021. Heaven help us.

But 23-year-old Jake has his sights set not on fighting Floyd, but matching his standing in the sport.

"I'm putting the work in, and I understand why people don't want to accept me yet," said Jake, who has limited amateur boxing experience. "But I've had two flawless victories, and I'm really dedicating my life to this.

"I have an $8 million mansion in Calabasas that I haven't stayed at for six months. I haven't even been home because I've been in Las Vegas training in a little tiny house, two-a-days, pouring my heart and soul into this. So if people don't respect that, then I don't know what they're gonna respect."

On the Robinson fight, Paul reflected: "I feel like I didn't get to showcase my skills, honestly, so I'm a little upset with that... I'll fight again ASAP.

"I think I just cemented myself as one of the biggest prize fighters, so someone's gonna have to come with the bag [of money] or I might do my own promotion. So we'll see."

Yes, we will see. We'll see if Jake Paul really is the new Mayweather, and we'll keep an eye out for flying pigs and hell freezing over while we're at it.
