Manchester United make the trip down south beaming with confidence after their 2-0 win over Spurs in midweek. It was overshadowed by Cristiano Ronaldo refusing to come on and the forward leaving Old Trafford early.

Meanwhile, Chelsea remain unbeaten after Graham Potter’s first seven games in charge. They have won five of their seven matches in all competitions, drawing the other two. Potter’s side were held to a goalless draw on Wednesday by Brentford, which saw them keep a fifth consecutive clean sheet.

Ten Hag will be without Ronaldo and Anthony Martial for the visit to the capital. On Ronaldo, the Man United boss admitted: "It's a miss for the squad but it's important for the attitude and mentality of the group and now we have to focus on Chelsea as that is important."

Potter has already faced Ten Hag this season, coming during his tenure at Brighton which saw the Seagulls claim a 2-1 win at Old Trafford on the opening day of the season.

The defeat doesn't faze Ten Hag, who added: "It is nothing, I think from that game. It is a different team, different game. We are further in the process.

"For me it's never an issue, away or home. The pitch is the same size, 11 vs 11, there is a ref. We feel strong and we are looking forward to the game."

Potter has huge respect for the job Ten Hag is doing at Old Trafford after beating him on the opening day during his Brighton days.

The Chelsea head coach said: "I have a huge respect for Ten Hag. They've done well, not a great start but they've battled back and played well. It's going to be a tough game."

He is set to have Conor Gallagher available after illness, while Wesley Fofana, Reece James and N'Golo Kante all remain sidelined.

Potter added: "We are still in the process of recovery. Pretty much as we were with Brentford. Conor (Gallagher) trained today so we will see how he is over the 24 hours."
