"Now's The Time To Be Optimistic" - Scott McTominay Details Erik Ten Hag Impact After "Hard To Swallow" Season

"Now's The Time To Be Optimistic" - Scott McTominay Details Erik Ten Hag Impact After "Hard To Swallow" Season

Scott McTominay believes that it is time to be optimistic at Manchester United with new manager Erik ten Hag leading the team forward.

Scott McTominay has spoken ahead of Manchester United's pre-season about his recovery over the summer and being ready for the challenge next season.

The midfielder was part of the squad that finished in an embarrassingly low sixth position in the Premier League last season.

It was a campaign which was horrible for all involved, even described by the CEO Richard Arnold as a "f*cking nightmare".

However, both fans and players are ready to turn a new leaf under the stewardship of Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch manager has recently detailed how he plans to implement his style on his new squad, and the players are ready to take in the information ahead of league opener against Brighton next month.

McTominay is known for his strong mentality within the United squad, and he is in agreement that United now need to focus on the upcoming season with their exciting new manager.

"It's such a difficult season to swallow, but as I say, now is the time to really be optimistic and we're really looking forward to what's to come." He told United Daily.

"The way that the coaches have presented their ideas to all of the players and staff has been really promising, for sure."

The Scotsman was then quizzed on his time off over the summer.

An image of him went viral during his holiday, as it looked like he had been keeping himself in killer shape.

McTominay downplayed his summer efforts though, and explained the importance of rest and recovery after a long season, which included international fixtures at the end of it.

"To be honest, not a lot in terms of the off-season." He answered when asked how much he trained during the period. "Maybe five or six training sessions,

"But we only had two and a half weeks off so you can't go blowing the gasket too quick,

"You need to make sure you've had enough rest and make sure you got enough time in the legs to properly recover, but obviously there's a chance to make your body stronger."

Now that the midfielder has had that break, he vows that he is ready to get going, with Liverpool being the first test of a long pre-season camp.

He also believes that the entire squad is ready to get to work so that they can start the next season strongly.

"I feel good, I feel refreshed, I feel fit and getting over the time difference here, we're looking forward to a good week in terms of the games that we've got coming up and the training as well.

"I think all of the players are more than locked in to do their jobs for the new coach, for sure."
