Conor McGregor's coach shared a cryptic post following the cancellation of UFC 256's main-event between Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns.

Usman vs. Burns is OFF for UFC 256 on December 12 with the promotion looking for a new main-event.

And John Kavanagh swiftly responded to the welterweight title bout being rescheduled for next year.

He reacted to Ariel Helwani's tweet with a single emoji which sent social media wild.

Helwani then commented: "UFC 256 is exactly 5 years to the day of McGregor's KO of Aldo.

"Does he return the scene of arguably his greatest triumph before the year is out? The door is now a little more open."

McGregor hasn't fought since his triumphant UFC comeback against Donald Cerrone in January.

He then retired in June after growing frustrated with Dana White and the lack of opportunities.

Though he has teased a return to fighting and suggested a charity bout with former foe Dustin Poirier.

UFC responded by offering him a fight against 'The Diamond' who wasted no time in accepting the contest.

'The Notorious' has yet to accept or decline White's offer, but a potential rematch could be the perfect way to replace Usman vs. Burns for UFC 256.

McGregor and Poirier first fought at featherweight at UFC 178 in September 2014 with the Irishman securing a first-round victory.
