An insider has provided an update on Serena Williams' return to action after she suffered a knee injury which ended her participation at Wimbledon prematurely.
Williams, the most successful women's player of all-time with 23 Grand Slams, made a shock return to the court after 1,375 days away.
The 44-year-old's last showing was against Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round of the US Open in 2022 and her last appearance at Wimbledon came in the same year.
But Williams made a return in June Queen’s, partnering Victoria Mboko and winning their first round match before the Canadien teenager had to withdraw due to a knee injury.

Continuing her comeback, Williams was then announced as a wildcard for Wimbledon - an event she has won seven times.
In her long-awaited singles return, Williams was beaten in the first round, suffering a 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 three sets defeat to Australia's Maya Joint.

She had already been slated to team up with sister Venus in the doubles, facing the team of Solana Sierra and Camila Osorio.
However, a knee injury suffered prevented that from happening - with Williams issuing a statement where she said "unfortunately my knee just isn’t ready to compete".
Fortunately, she is not set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines as Williams is still poised to be back on the WTA Tour and competing at Grand Slam events.
Serena Williams could make incredible mixed doubles return at the US Open
In fact, Jon Wertheim of The Tennis Channel, claims that two summer tournaments are already in the calendar and the Williams dream pairing could still happen.
And in another exciting update, Wertheim believes that another star-studded duo could be on the card as he hinted at Williams teaming up with Carlos Alcaraz.
“The knee injury that cut short Serena’s Wimbledon return and kept her out of doubles. It looks like it’s healed because we are getting news that she will be back on the hard courts this summer,” he said.
“I am told that Venus will be back in Toronto, playing an event that gave her a wild card at age 15 in the 1990s. And Serena is expected to be there as well, though it’s uncertain whether it will be just for doubles or for doubles and singles,” he continued.
“I’m told that the Williams sisters will see how they feel, Cincinnati is entirely possible as a next stop, and then both are expected to be at the 2026 US Open, starting with the mixed doubles.”
Williams' last appearance at the Canadian Open came in 2022 when she lost to Belinda Bencic in the second round.
She has won the tournament twice in the past and with it kicking off on August 1, it could serve as the ideal preparation for the US Open later that month.
On what Williams might do at the US Open, he added: "Perhaps Serena and Carlos Alcaraz, keep an eye on that, particularly if Carlos Alcaraz’s wrist is healed.”
Alcaraz has been absent from competition for around three months after suffering a wrist injury at the Barcelona Open in April.
While he won his first round match, Alcaraz had to withdraw and missed the French Open and Wimbledon as a result.
He has been back training and hitting balls and the US Open does feel like a realistic timeframe for a return.
Alcaraz will hope to defend his crown from last year and he might just be linking up with one of the all-time greats in Williams.
After he posted pictures of him training in Madrid, Williams appeared to tease partnering up with the Spaniard as she simply commented, "They not ready".
