Cameron Munster is edging towards a huge $6 million move with the Dolphins come 2024.

The Melbourne Storm player is on the radar of the new NRL franchise who are looking to make him a star signing, with NRL reporter Ben Dobbin declaring that ‘in 2024 Munster is a Dolphin’.

Speaking on Triple M, Dobbin declared he believes ‘it will be a four-year deal’ agreeing with Gorden Tallis’ assessment that it will be worth ‘roughly around $6 million’.

Dobbin added: “Is he worth it? Yes, can he change the fortunes of a club? Yes, he can.

“Can you put tools around him and will it attract other players? Yes, it will.”

That $6 million figure would make Munster the highest-paid player in the NRL at $1.5 million a season, overtaking Nathan Cleary who currently earns $1.3 million per year.

Former Bulldogs captain James Graham believes that figure is what it would take to lure the five-eighth to Wayne Bennett’s Redcliffe side.

He said on Triple M: “We all know Wayne has got the structures in place around what he thinks players are worth, and how that affects the salary cap - but look at some of these players in this rich list that are out there.

"A lot of them are people who are playing at the club they've been at for a long time. I think for Munster to go onto the open market, to go to a new franchise team ... he'll be the highest paid player in the game."

It would signal a huge marquee acquisition for the Dolphins, something the side desperately needs, as they continue to hunt down star players for their debut season.

If they were to fail in securing Munster’s services, Ben Dobbin believes Bennett could be keen on reuniting with Latrell Mitchell instead.

Dobbin added: “If they don’t get Cameron Munster, I’m going to throw you a smokey right now. I believe they will go after Latrell Mitchell… Wayne Bennett’s relationship with Latrell Mitchell runs deep.”

Bennett mentored Latrell during the 2020 and 2021 seasons and helped Mitchell thrive at fullback.

However, Gorden Tallis believes that no amount of money would make the Rabbitohs’ star move away from the Redfern team.

“It is too far away from his farm, I think for Latrell, there is a bigger picture for him,” Tallis said.

“I have never seen a guy more settled and going back to the country and doing what he is doing, that is more important to Latrell now than money.

“I think he is the happiest (he has been).”
