The World’s Strongest Man event is back for another year, with the historic tournament kicking off yesterday in Sacramento, California - and running for four more days until Sunday 29 May.

Reigning champion Tom Stoltman will look to defend his 2021 title, but he'll have plenty of competition. Former World's Strongest Man winners Oleksii Novikov and Brian Shaw are set to take part, and Stoltman's brother, Luke, could also make a push for the podium. 'The World's Strongest Gay' Rob Kearnan returns to competition after beating testicular cancer.

Shaw is looking to make history by becoming only the second five-time champion in the competition’s 45-year history, alongside Mariusz Pudzianowski.

Stoltman’s biggest challenge will come in the form of Martin Licis, who has had to miss the last two WSM events due to being hit by a car. Since returning he’s been on a good run, winning several events in late 2021 and earlier this year.

The reigning champion and his brother are joined by four fellow Brits in California, with Gavin Bilton, Adam Bishop, Shane Flowers and Mark Felix making the journey across the pond.

WHERE TO WATCH THE 2022 WORLD’S STRONGEST MAN EVENT

In the UK, a live show called “Backstage! Presented by The Beard Struggle” is being broadcast on the WSM Facebook and YouTube channels. Hosted by 15-time competitor Terry Hollands, he goes behind the scenes as well as taking you through the action on stage. You can also watch it on CBS if you have access to the American network.
