Unseen footage captures Mick Schumacher and Romain Grosjean exchange after 'insane' collision

Romain Grosjean and his Haas teammate Kevin Magnussen were replaced for the 2021 F1 campaign by Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin less than a year after the French driver’s frightening crash at the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix.

Grosjean has opted to race in the IndyCar Series since 2021, after he was replaced at Haas in the same year, where he has been ever since.

Meanwhile, Schumacher raced in F1 for the Haas team in the 2021 and 2022 campaigns before being replaced and moving to Mercedes in 2023 as their reserve driver for two seasons, before in 2026 moving to the IndyCar series.

The pair of former Haas F1 drivers were involved in a clash on the oval in Milwaukee, as Schumacher clipped Grosjean's wheels, who was on the outside.

This contact sent the German spinning and triggered a full-course yellow, and now untelevised footage of the pair in the pit lane has shown Schumacher confronting Grosjean.

Schumacher approached Grosjean’s Dale Coyne Racing car, and could then be seen walking away as the French driver began to exit the cockpit.

The 40-year-old and the German were then filmed in another conversation when both drivers were out of their respective cars, with the talk appearing to be quite positive with it ending in an embrace between the duo.

However, in a conversation with Frontstretch Open Wheel, Schumacher was not pleased with the incident that led to his spin.

The German said: “That contact was insane. I’ve never seen anybody chop across like that before in my life.

“He’s had experience with that in the past, which you would think somebody learns from it.

“I just think that on an oval like that, I mean, I’ve been told off for just running up wide, and somebody comes in and just chops across… I don’t think that’s quite racing.

“I drove with a lot of frustration afterwards, because I just thought that was not necessary, and frankly, just not good to race like that.

“At the end of the day, it’s part of the learning curve. Luckily, we kept it out of the wall. Honestly, at some point, I thought I was going to hit the pit lane. Not amazing.”
