Former Sky Sports presenter holds record for winning most amount of money on an episode of The Chase

The record was set back in 2018 after a thrilling Final Chase.

A former Sky Sports presenter holds the record for winning the most amount of money in a single episode of The Chase.

The hit ITV show, hosted by Bradley Walsh, sees four contestants each compete in a one-minute cash builder round, before then playing for either the amount of money they won, or one of two other amounts pre-chosen by The Chaser.

They must then out-run The Chaser by answering enough multiple-choice questions correctly at the main table.

Any winners then have two minutes to answer as many questions as they can correctly, with The Chaser attempting to beat their score in the Final Chase.

It is a simple format that has proved extremely popular throughout the show's over 2,000-episode and 15-year history.

The Celebrity Chase, meanwhile, follows the same format, except the four contestants nominate a chosen charity for any winnings to go to.

Out of the 155 celebrity episodes hosted, 56 different teams have won in the Final Chase (via One Question Shootout).

But in 2018, the show gave away its highest-ever prize pot per player - and it's a record that still stands today.

It was a Soccer Aid special, with commentator Clive Tyldesley joined by Countdown star Rachel Riley, TV presenter Charley Boorman and Sky Sports presenter Kirsty Gallacher.

Riley and Gallacher ended up reaching the final, where they were played for a prize pot of £160,000 won at the main table.

They scored 16 points in their two-minute Final Chase, but managed to get four pushbacks and defeated The Chaser by five points.

Both players, therefore, won £80,000 each - setting a new record on both the normal and celebrity shows as the highest individual prize money won.

You can see the Final Chase below.

Their record has never been beaten since, but has been matched by a contestant on the normal edition of the show.

In August 2022, a contestant named Dan went up against The Chaser on his own in the final, having won £80,000 at the main table.

He scored 17 points and won by just one in a thrilling Final Chase to match Riley and Gallacher's record.
