Cyclist's bizarre 'plank' technique to overtake competitors goes viral online

Call it whatever you like, a 'superman, 'plank' or even a 'sleeping' position. Either way, it's pure gold.

Yes, you've probably seen this clip before, but it's beginning to go viral again.

Cyclist Michael Guerra's rather unique overtaking technique has started doing the rounds on social media once again – and it still, to this day, it makes for extraordinary viewing.

Call it whatever you like, a 'superman, 'plank' or even a 'sleeping' position.

Either way, Guerra technique for overtaking his fellow riders is nothing short of genius.

Using simple physics and aerodynamics, it's understood he lies down on his seat and extends his legs to create a streamlined effect.

This 'plank' position ultimately makes him absolutely rapid and Guerra is able to effortlessly overtake his competitors without having to pump his legs like they do.

When footage first emerged of him doing this, it well and truly broke the internet, going viral and racking up millions of views online.

That was a few years ago back in 2016, but now the clip has resurfaced again – pulling in even bigger numbers.

Popular Instagram page 'The Arch Bishop Of Banterbury' posted the video across their channels, captioning it: "Could you imagine seeing this dude flying past you on his bike doing a plank?"

One person commented: "The prefect wing man."

As another added: "bro got the slip stream and everything."

While a third joked: "Balls of steel. Literally."

That post alone got almost 3 millions views.

The reasons for it going viral five years later? Honestly, who knows.

One thing is for certain, though, and that's that the clip itself is pure gold.

We're unsure whether this technique is permitted during professional races.

There's no doubt we'd love to see the likes of reigning Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard and the rest of the competitors pull this move out the bag in a bid to clinch the yellow jersey.
