Why Green Bay Packers Are Wearing All White for Washington Commanders Game

The Packers will wear an alternative uniform for Thursday Night Football

The reason that the Green Bay Packers are wearing all white against the Washington Commanders has been revealed.

After opening their season with a 27-13 victory over the Detroit Lions, the Packers return to action on Thursday Night Football as they look to continue their strong start. For the clash, they will step out onto the field in striking all-white uniforms with accompanying helmets.

The move is part of the franchise's 'winter warning' promotion. Although it is still the first half of September, with the game scheduled for Thursday night football, the franchise decided it was a good opportunity for the promotion.

The idea is to transform both the field and stands into a sea of white, with the Packers also encouraging supporters to wear white. The aim? To create a unified aesthetic between the pitch and the spectators that will stand out for those at Lambeau Park and anyone watching on television.

It is not the only themed event that they have scheduled this season, with the Packers organising a series of tributes and promotions for home fixtures throughout the year.

How has their kit changed?

The Green Bay Packers wear one of the most recognisable uniforms in world sport with their famous combination of green, gold, and white.

But in recent years, they have developed alternative designs for special occasions.

Thursday is their second winter warning promotion and so the second time they will don the all-white kit.

Although there are still green and gold details to continue the typical colours of the Packers.

What other special events do they have planned?

Thursday night's winter whiteout is only one of the events that the Packers have planned for the coming season.

On October 12, Green Bay will host the Cincinnati Bengals in their annual Packers vs Cancer game, which forms part of the organisation's ongoing cancer awareness campaign.

On November 2, when the Packers face the Carolina Panthers at Lambeau Field, they will wear their classic 1923 uniforms.

The design is a throwback to a year in which they finished third in the NBA.

But it crucially marked the beginning of Curly Lumbeau leading the Packers to an astonishing six NFL titles.

The following week Green Bey welcome the Philadelphia Eagles, who are the reigning Super Bowl champions

That game will include a tribute to those that fought in the war ahead of Remembrance Day on 11 November.
