Patrick Mahomes has broken a three-year streak as he prepares for a Super Bowl rematch.
Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs opened the NFL season in disappointing fashion, losing 27-21 to the Los Angeles Chargers. It was Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert who stole the spotlight with a fantastic performance.
He threw for 318 years and three touchdowns in an impressive victory for Los Angeles. By comparison, Mahomes managed 258 yards and just one touchdown.
The 29-year-old admitted after the game: "We didn't execute. I missed some throws down the field and obviously we didn't play good enough in the first half."

After a poor performance, many NFL fans believe the Chiefs could struggle in Week 2, which is a rematch of last year's Super Bowl.

The Chiefs will host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, and betting odds at the start of the week have the Chiefs as underdogs.
If that remains the case, it will be just the second time in Mahomes' entire NFL career that his team have started a home game as underdogs.

The only other occasion that happened was back in 2022 in Week 6, when the Chiefs hosted the Buffalo Bills, and lost 24-20.

How did Patrick Mahomes play in Week 1?
Once again, there are high expectations for the Chiefs after they reached a third consecutive Super Bowl last year, even though they fell short.

It was a difficult start for Mahomes, despite his reputation as one of the league's best quarterbacks.
Sky Sports NFL commentator Neil Reynolds said: "When they were chasing the game, you're always going to get the magic from Mahomes, right?
"He's falling over and he tosses it over three defenders. You're going to get that.
"But when they were chasing the game, with the exception of one long pass to a receiver and they had the touchdown that broke open for Kelce, everything else just looked too much hard work frankly."

The Chiefs head coach insisted that his team will improve from the defeat.
Andy Reid said: “We can learn from this. Moving forward, I have to make sure I get my team in a better state coming out and playing with more emotion.
"There were some good things, but we have to make sure we take care of business, and that’s my responsibility.”
Although it was a frustrating start for Mahomes and the Chiefs, the season is still in its infancy, and their supporters will not start panicking yet.
