Golf fans have the same complaint while watching the final round of the US Open

The 2025 US Open has not been what some fans expected after three completed rounds.

Golf fans have made the same complaint while watching the fourth and final round of the 2025 US Open.

The tournament is being held at the Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania, with a prize fund totalling $21,500,000 for the field of 156 players.

Sam Burns led the field on four-under-par heading into the final round on Sunday, with Australian veteran Adam Scott only a shot back as he looks for an unlikely but popular second major triumph after winning the 2013 Masters.

Many of golf's stars have struggled throughout the four days, with Jon Rahm (+7), Collin Morikawa (+8) and reigning Masters champion Rory McIlroy (+10) all well off the pace before the beginning of the final round.

Even world number one Scottie Scheffler, so often a leading contender in major tournaments, only entered the final round at four-over after showing his frustration on the course.

And Bryson DeChambeau, who missed the cut, described Oakmont as being a 'brutal test of golf' on Friday evening.

Fans have made the same point about the course on social media - with many feeling it has negatively impacted the golfers and their own viewing experiences even while the final round is ongoing.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: "Despite the anticipation beforehand and the reputation of the course, I've found it a little dull at times. The test just lacks variety and stifles creativity for me."

A second asked: "Does McIlroy look happy? Does Scheffler look happy? How about [Jordan] Spieth or [Justin] Thomas?"

A third stated: "The PGA is more fun to watch than this US Open, boring course, no trees, no water."

And a fourth wrote: "Hot take - this US Open is one of the most boring golf tournaments in the history of the sport. We have created a cult following for a course being difficult and unplayable."

Behind leader Burns and Scott, only JJ Spaun (-3) and Viktor Hovland (-1) were under par heading into the final round at Oakmont.

Aside from Scott, a winner out of the other three players would see a maiden US Open champion be crowned, with Burns finishing tied for ninth in 2023 and Hovland tied for 12th in 2019.

Spaun, meanwhile, had never previously even made the cut in the US Open, having only competed once in 2021 at Torrey Pines.
