Donald Trump sparks new cheating scandal and insults golfers after winning 43rd championship

Donald Trump taunted his opponents after claiming two Championship titles at his Bedminster golf course.

When he's not busy working as the President of the United States, it's well known that Trump loves a round of golf.

The 80-year-old owns more than 10 courses across the United States, Europe and Asia and is often seen playing a round alongside celebrities, professional athletes and other political figures.

During his first term as president, Trump visited a Trump Organization property 428 in the 1,461 days of his time in office, with estimates saying he plays 261 rounds of golf, an average of once every 5.6 days.

It therefore comes as no surprise that he has continued during his second term, with Trump estimated to have golfed 125 days out of 561 days since returning to office, which works out as 22.3% of the presidency.

In his most recent outing, Trump claimed to post an impressive two-under 70 at his Bedminster golf course in New Jersey, a score that saw him win both the the Senior and Super Senior Men's Club Championship.

This takes his championship total across his collection of golf courses up to an impressive 43, having won both titles in 2023, and the Senior Championship alone in 2024.

And Trump made sure to make everyone aware of his impressive feats as he took to social media to brag about his win with a brutal comment aimed at his golfing rivals.

"I won with a score of 70, and am so honoured in that, unlike the rest of the field, I'm given very little time to practise, because I'm focused on many other things," Trump said in a Truth Social post.

"It's called TALENT, and I have it, and they don't!"

In a similar post back in 2023 celebrating his wins, Trump wrote: "For some reason, I am just a good golfer/athlete - I have won many Club Championships, and it is always a great honor!”

Meanwhile The White House official account congratulated the president on his 2024 title, sharing a digital picture of his scorecard, adding: "Winning on and off the course."

Does Donald Trump cheat in golf?

Although we can only take Trump at face value and assume that he did in fact post the impressive scores he claims, it's long been suggested that the US president could cheat on the golf course.

American sports writer Rick Reilly's wrote in his book Commander in Cheat, that Trump has been seen kicking his ball to better his position on the course.

"At Winged Foot, where Trump is a member, the caddies got so used to seeing him kick his ball back onto the fairway they came up with a nickname for him: Pele," Reilly claimed in his book.

In 2016, actor Samuel L. Jackson accused the president of cheating, with the late Senator Lindsey Graham, a close ally of Trump, the latest person to suggest that Trump, and his caddie, and sometimes a bit cheeky on the course.

“Some people say you may outdrive him, but you’re not going to outdrive his caddy. It is what it is.” Graham said when asked about the cheating accusations.

Trump has, of course, denied any allegations of cheating at golf.
