Golf fans have called for drastic actions for one player after a ‘disgusting’ act at this year’s US Open.
The 2025 US Open has proven to be one of the most difficult tournaments in recent memory due to the location of this year’s flagship event.
Oakmont Country Club is renowned as one of the most challenging courses on the planet with narrow fairways, treacherous rough and lightning fast greens with slopes that are sometimes impossible to read.

Even the best golfers in the world have struggled, with last year’s winner and world no.10 Bryson DeChambeau failing to make the cut alongside the likes of Ludvig Aberg, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson and Joaquin Niemann who all failed to make the weekend.
Another player to miss the cut was 2023 champion Wyndham Clark who has been slammed by fans online for actions after another poor round.
Tron Carter from NoLayingUp reported that Clark had lashed out in Oakmont’s iconic clubhouse and caused damage to the locker room. He later posted an image of the alleged damage with fans quick to voice their opinion.

One fan said: “Should be banned from Oakmont.”
Another said: “He should be suspended. This is ridiculous. The tour and the USGA should make statements strongly condemning the club throwing, profanity, and all the other antics that have become the norm in the professional game.”
A third wrote: “No, this is unacceptable anywhere. He's a guest of Oakmont. You don't do this ever.”
A fourth concluded: “Kicked from the PGA Tour for the rest of the year and banned for life from Oakmont.”
Oakmont's locker room is living museum of history at the iconic course with wooden benches featuring spike marks from golfers such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.

It’s not the first time Clark has lashed out during the current golf season and was forced to issue an apology during the recent PGA Championship major won by Scottie Scheffler.
After hitting a wayward drive on hole 16, Clark turned around and launched his driver against an advertising board causing it to snap.
The 31-year-old isn’t the only golfer to let his frustrations be known at Oakmont this week with current Masters champion Rory McIlroy also facing criticism from fans for letting his frustrations get the better of him.
With the Northern Irishman facing pressure to make the cut, McIlroy launched his club down the fairway after an errant approach shot on the 12th hole.

Just five holes later on the 17th par-4, McIlroy destroyed a white US Open tee marker after his tee shot started to tail away from it’s target.
What do golfers think of Oakmont Country Club?
2022 champion Matt Fitzpatrick also missed the weekend’s action after finishing nine over par through two rounds and hit at the ‘unfair’ nature of the course.

He told the assembled media: “I think there’s hard that’s fair and there’s just straight unfair. And I just think that this falls into that [second] category, really.
I just don’t think it necessarily rewards good shots and I think it penalises bad shots too harshly. You can be more penalised for hitting a shot one yard off the fairway, six inches off the fairway, than you can 40 yards off the fairway. And obviously, when you’ve got the greens as extreme as these, it amplifies any miss.
“I get that it’s the same for everyone and you have got to hit good shots. Obviously, it always sounds like sour grapes when a player complains. I am a huge fan of the USGA [the organising US Golf Association], I’ve played 11 US Opens now, I think, and I feel like I’ve experienced what is hard and fair and what is hard and unfair over the course of my career now. I just feel like this falls into that category of unfair.”
