Golf legend Tiger Woods has spoken out about taking over as captain of the Team US Ryder Cup team.

With just one day left to play in the 2025 Ryder Cup, it now looks almost impossible for Team US to win the home tournament after Team Europe established a dominant lead on Saturday.

After a controversial day that saw American fans heckling European players during their rounds, the visitors are currently winning 11.5-4.5 with only the singles matches to be played.

The disappointing performances from Team US has led to some fans speculating if it could be time for a change in leadership before the next Ryder Cup in 2027.

Although current US captain Keegan Bradley is popular, it has been suggested that golf great Woods should take over in 2027, an idea that Woods himself has spoken about.

Despite enjoying a spectacular career on the golf course, Woods only won the Ryder Cup with Team US once after being a part of eight teams.

Therefore, as his playing days come to an end, taking over as the US Team Captain could be the perfect opportunity for Woods to add more Ryder Cups to his already impressive trophy cabinet.

In fact, the 15-time major winner was offered the role ahead of this year's competition, following several discussions with the PGA (Professional Golfers' Association) of America.

However, Woods ultimately decided to turn down the role, stating that he didn't feel that he would have the time needed to do the job justice given his committments as a member of the PGA TOUR Policy Board and PGA TOUR Enterprises Board of Directors

“With my new responsibilities to the TOUR and time commitments involved, I felt like I would not be able to commit the time to Team USA and the players required as a captain,” Woods said in a statement.

But Woods also confirmed that leading the US at a Ryder Cup is still something that he would be open to doing at some point in his life, stating that he will apply to do so in the future, should he feel that the timing is right.

“That does not mean I wouldn’t want to captain a team in the future. If and when I feel it is the right time, I will put my hat in the ring for this committee to decide."
