If your idea of a perfect golf trip involves ripping drivers down wide fairways, a bit of light trash talking with your mates, jumping in the water to cool off, and demolishing a solid feed afterwards — say hello to The Murray.
Sitting right on the VIC/NSW border, this riverside region quietly delivers everything you want from a lads’ golf getaway: unreal scenery, winter sunshine, good accommodation, plenty of food, wine and beer to celebrate, and, of course, great value resort golf. It’s relaxed, it’s easy, and it’ll tempt you all for “just one more night” — especially because all of these courses are just a drive from each other.
Now, let’s cut to the chase — the golf is why you’re here. And the Murray does not mess around.
Black Bull Golf Course at Silverwoods Resort

This is the Murray’s headline act when it comes to golf. Sitting right on Lake Mulwala, it’s one of those courses where you’ll want your phone charged because every part of it looks like a screensaver. Designed by Peter Thomson and Ross Perrett, it’s challenging enough to keep things interesting but playable enough that no one’s rage-quitting by the back nine. No broken clubs here!
Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club

With 45 holes across three courses, you can play a different layout every day and still not get bored. The Murray Course, in particular, winds through classic river country and feels like proper Aussie golf at its best. You’ll get to take in the mighty Murray River in all its glory while you aim for that next birdie.
Rich River Golf Club

Rich by name, rich by nature — this golfing haven is full to the brim of everything you could want. Two championship courses, immaculate conditions, and a clubhouse that understands the importance of post-round beers and unbeatable vibes. A combo for the ages.
A golf trip can’t all be about the golf, however. You’ll need to think about where you’ll eat, drink, stay and play (off the green) as well. Luckily, the Murray has all that, and more, in abundance.
The Sebel Yarrawonga

The picture speaks for itself, doesn’t it?
The Sebel Yarrawonga is modern, comfortable, and perfectly placed near Lake Mulwala and some of the region’s best courses.
After 18 holes under the sun, this is the kind of place you want to come back to — shower, stretch out, and argue about who definitely would’ve broken 80 if that one putt dropped. It’s polished without being stuffy, which is exactly what you want for a golf trip that’s meant to be fun and relaxing.
Blacksmith Provedore, Lake Mulwala

Blacksmith Provedore sits right on Lake Mulwala and knows exactly what you’ll crave after a day on the green. Expect generous serves, quality local produce, and the kind of menu where everyone finds something they’re happy to smash after a long day on the course. It’s casual, it’s comforting, and it hits the spot every time.
Rutherglen’s All Saints Estate

Just in case you and the lads want to feel a little bit fancy, then it’s worth taking a trip to All Saints Estate in Rutherglen, nearby the great Murray River.. This place is nothing short of iconic, the wines are excellent, and it’s a top-tier setting for a long lunch where golf chat slowly turns into life chat (or very confident plans for another round).
Kayaking on Lake Mulwala

It is a golf trip, sure, but you can’t just swing, putt, eat, drink, sleep, repeat your way through the holiday. So why not break it up with something that’ll slow you down and chill you out. Nothing does that quite like hiring a kayak on Lake Mulwala. It’s low effort but high reward. Paddle around, soak up the sun, maybe cool off with a quick dip. It’s the perfect reset between rounds and a nice reminder that you’re on holiday.
So if you’re organising the next lads’ getaway and want somewhere that delivers without overcomplicating things, consider this your sign. Load the clubs into the car, aim for the river, and let The Murray do the rest.
You’ll come for the golf — and probably start planning the return trip before you even leave.
