Bryson DeChambeau issues response to claim he's 'definitely' contacted the PGA Tour over returning

Bryson DeChambeau has finally responded to reports that he and his team are in contact with the PGA Tour over a return amid LIV Golf's rumoured collapse.

After months of rumours suggesting that LIV Golf's future was in doubt, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) confirmed it will end its funding of the PGA Tour rival at the end of the 2026 season.

Following the announcement Yasir Al-Rumayyan - the governor of the PIF - stepped down from the board amid questions over LIV's future.

With LIV Golf looking like it could collapse by the end of the year, various reports have suggested that some of its key players were exploring other options, with many of them looking to return to the PGA Tour.

Most notably, two-time major winner DeChambeau has been reported to be considering a return to the PGA as early as during the Masters last month.

However, the 32-year-old has lashed out to deny these claims, reaffirming his commitment to a league focusing on team golf.

“It’s completely untrue. I’m working as hard as I can to find a solution,” DeChambeau told Flushing It Golf.

“I’m committed to making team golf work in the best way possible. I think there’s a place for it in the ecosystem and I want to continue to grow the game across the world. That’s always been our mission and it’s never been more true than now.”

DeChambeau has been a part of LIV since June 2022 when he joined on a reported $125m contract, and is widely regarded as the face of the organisation.

But, with his contact set to expire at the end of the year, it would make perfect sense for him to be considering his options elsewhere with so many doubts cast over the future of LIV Golf.

Addressing this, DeChambeau added: "We’re still working on a potential contract. I haven’t given up on that and I think there ‌will ⁠be a solution.

"But as of right now, my job is to help make the league work after this year. I just feel like I have a responsibility. I’ve put a lot of effort into it. So that’s what I’m going to do, we’re going to make this work.”

This led to golf media personality Trey Wingo issuing a response on social media to DeChambeau's latest comments, doubling down on the reports that he certainly has been looking at a return to the PGA Tour.

He wrote: “I can tell you definitively that people from Bryson’s camp have reached out to the highest levels of the PGA TOUR several times about exploring a path to return… and the same goes for Jon Rahm.“

What has the PGA Tour said about taking Bryson DeChambeau back?

As it stands, it remains unclear if the PGA Tour would even consider taking the likes of DeChambeau or Rahm back should they decide that is what they wanted to do.

However, when asked about the possibility amid the rumours surrounding LIV Golf, PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp appeared to suggest he would be open to taking the players back if it was what was best for the Tour.

Speaking on Wingo’s podcast, Rolapp said: "I’m like everybody else, I’m just reading things as they come across. I don’t know what’s going on. It would be premature for me to speculate, so I don’t have a lot to say.

"I just see the same stories everybody else sees. As I’ve said, we’re pretty focused on what we’re doing here and how we’re making the PGA Tour better, so that’s clearly where my focus is."
