Only two Wrexham players featured in the National League Team of the Year despite title win

Fans have been left baffled after only two Wrexham players made the National League Team of the Season.

The Red Dragons accrued a record 111 points to secure the National League title and securing promotion back to the Football League for the first time since 2008.

They lost just three times in 46 games, scoring 116 goals and conceding 43 to end up with a goal difference of 73.

But incredibly, Wrexham were not the dominant team when it came to the Vanarama National League XI made up of the league's top performers.

Top scorer Paul Mullin had to be included after a sensational campaign where he hit 38 goals in the league and 47 in all competitions.

And former West Ham midfielder Elliot Lee also received recognition for a stellar season. But the side is dominated by Notts County, who pushed Wrexham all the way and beat Chesterfield on penalties at Wembley to take the second promotion spot.

The Magpies are represented by 42-goal hero and league top scorer Macaulay Langstaff, Adam Chicksen, Kyle Cameron and Ruben Rodrigues.

Other stand-out performers include Boreham Wood goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore, Omar Sowunmi of Bromley and Barnet's Harry Pritchard.

However, the lack of Wrexham players came as a huge surprise to many fans, who took to social media to air their thoughts.

One fan said: "Wrexham only have 2 players in TOTS but won the league with a record amount of points. Baffled!"

Another agreed: "This is so rigged only 2 wrexham players when winning the league, how Tozer isn’t in this is a joke."

A third added: "2 Wrexham players christ."

A fourth commented: "Hahahahahahahahahaha Wrexham break the record for most points ever and only get 2 players in tots, this team should only consist of Wrexham, Notts and 1 Chesterfield player."

A fifth fumed: "What in the name of Benjamin Peter Anthony Tozer is this then? Kyle Cameron defends just outside the 18 yard box . . . the opposition’s 18 yard box."

A final user weighed in: "Should be more Wrexham players in there but very well deserved for Elliot Lee and Paul Mullin!"
