The Argentina players have been forced to abandon their open-top bus victory parade and are flying over Buenos Aires instead.

The newly crowned world champions are back in their homeland after a dramatic victory over France at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar.

Argentina were 2-0 up at half-time thanks to goals from Lionel Messi and Angel di Maria. However, a brace from Kylian Mbappe in the last 10 minutes dragged the match into extra time.

After 120 minutes of scintillating football, the World Cup was decided via a penalty shootout, which Argentina won 4-2.

Ahead of their return to Argentina’s capital city Buenos Aires, it was reported that millions of fans have lined the streets to welcome their heroes home.

However, despite starting their victory parade on an open-top bus, the team have now been forced to abandon the vehicle as the streets are simply too busy for the bus to drive through and security concerns have been raised after fans were trying to jump onto the bus during the parade.

Now, the players have been separated and are in helicopters as they fly over a city that has been swamped with fans wearing the famous blue and white jerseys.

Footage filmed by midfielder Enzo Fernandez shows him in a helicopter alongside his teammates as they flew over the crowd.

ESPN journalist Esteban Edul tweeted: “The Caravan will end in Lugano, at the Police cadet school.

“In 3 helicopters they will fly over the area where there are more people. That is the plan at this time.”

A fan amongst the crowd, Matias, said: “It's crazy, it's incredible, it's the best thing that can happen to you in life.

“It is an enormous joy to see all these happy people, all together, one with the other, holding hands, giving each other hugs and kisses. We are all one today.”

After their triumph in Qatar, Argentina are now three-time world champions, adding to their victories in 1978 and 1986.
