Zlatan Ibrahimovic tipped to join Wrexham in shock 'Hollywood' link up with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney

Could superstar Swede Ibrahimovic come out of retirement to increase Wrexham's Championship firepower?

It's bound to be the transfer news saga of the summer.

Wrexham are knocking of the door of the Championship and their probable promotion, which would be a historic third in consecutive seasons, would come with a fairly obvious need to upgrade their attacking weaponry.

With Paul Mullin heading for the exit, Ollie Palmer out of favour and Phil Parkinson's remaining options out of contract, approaching the end of their careers, or both, co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will be expected by supporters to sanction new signings.

The Red Dragons will undoubtedly be in the market for a number nine to lead the line.

In a bizarre twist, one former Premier League striker has identified global football megastar Zlatan Ibrahimovic as a suitable option for the North Wales club.

Matt Jansen appeared in the top division for Crystal Palace, Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers, and reckons that Wrexham would suit Ibrahimovic despite the fact that he retired from football in 2023.

Ibrahimovic has always kept himself in terrific shape but Jansen's shout is an extremely bold one nonetheless

"It would probably suit Zlatan Ibrahimovic, although he retired," Jansen told Fruity King.

"But money talks and they’ve certainly got it. It would be Hollywood and he’d enjoy it, wouldn’t he?"

Jansen identified a logical profile of striker for Wrexham to pursue but Ibrahimovic, as outlandish a pick as he is, might not be the least likely target the former Blackburn man named.

"It would certainly be that type, or a big target man like Chris Wood maybe, although he's not going to leave Nottingham Forest."

Jansen was also asked whether Wrexham or Birmingham City, the two teams now destined for promotion from League One, could go one better and claim a place in the Champions League.

"Anything's possible with Wrexham and they've got the backing. With the media around them, they've got the idea of what they want to do," he said.

"I think back-to-back would be too soon. They will probably try to consolidate first and build on that with more signings, spending more money.

"Look at the three coming down, the Premier League is tougher now for teams going up. But then Nottingham Forest have done it. I thought they'd struggle this season, but they’re looking like they should get Champions League football.

"So you can never say never, but it will be a real big ask. If I was going to choose anybody to go back-to-back, it would be Birmingham. I think they're a Championship side right now and if they spend wisely, they'll be stronger."

Wrexham are no strangers to consecutive promotions, having already risen from the National League to the third tier in two years.

While the owners have seemingly limitless ambitions, the idea of Wrexham achieving four promotions in four years to become a Premier League club is something of a long shot.

Then again, if anyone can, Zlatan can.
