Wrexham are reportedly set to be involved in a scramble for their first transfer since securing promotion to League One.

On Saturday, the Welsh club made it back-to-back promotions after a win over Forest Green Rovers secured their passage to the third tier of English football.

Goals from Elliot Lee, Paul Mullin, Ryan Barnett, Jack Marriott and an own goal by Ryan Inniss sealed a 6-0 win for Phil Parkinson’s side.

Next year will be the first time since 2005 that Wrexham have played in League One.

Looking ahead to the summer window, it has been claimed that Wrexham could be set for a transfer scramble.

Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, who joined Wrexham on loan from Premier League side Arsenal, is set to return to his parent club in two weeks.

However, as reported by The Athletic, the 22-year-old could become a free agent as the Gunners have not offered him a new deal.

The report stated: “If he does leave the Emirates Stadium, expect a scramble for his signature.”

Wrexham’s potential involvement in the race to sign Okonkwo is reportedly set to be decided by his wage demands.

During his loan spell with the Red Dragons, Arsenal paid most of his wages, with Wrexham covering just under half.

Wrexham are also facing multiple contract situations as the likes of Aaron Hayden, Jordan Tunnicliffe, Luke Young, Ben Tozer, Callum McFadzean, Rob Lainton and Matk Howard all have deals ending when the season draws to a close.

Reacting to Wrexham’s promotion, Hollywood star and co-owner Ryan Reynolds wrote on social media: “A few years ago, if you told me I would be crying tears of joy over a football match taking place in North Wales, you would be Rob McElhenney.

“Congrats to Wrexham and to my co-chairman in crime. Double up the town! This is the ride of our lives.”

Manager Parkinson said: “I'm immensely proud of the lads today because, when it mattered most, we've put in our two best performances of the season.

“It's a great achievement for everybody connected with the club. There is a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes.”
