Wrexham are set to offer a 'high-end' salary to sign a former Premier League star in a sensational double swoop this summer.

Wrexham are in the market for new talent ahead of their Championship campaign next season.

The Welsh outfit, who have secured three consecutive promotions, have been linked with several players this summer as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney scour the transfer window for new players.

Phil Parkinson has already set his sights on loan signings, having previously told The Athletic: "The loan market is something we are looking at."

The loan market could see Wrexham snap up a £19 million-rated Chelsea star, who is set to be available this summer.

He added: "It has to be a player you believe can make an instant impact and is going to make a significant contribution as the season goes on."

A player who could make a 'significant contribution' is Barry Bannan, who could leave Sheffield Wednesday if the club fail to pay his late wages amid the club's financial situation.

That's according to The Sun, who claim Wrexham are 'tracking developments' and can afford to pay a 'high-end' salary to lure him to the Racecourse Ground.

His current salary is believed to be around £24,000-per-week, per Football League World.

Bannan has been offered a new deal at Sheff Wednesday to extend his 10-year stay at Hillsborough.

The 35-year-old midfielder is among three Owls players invited to sign new contracts ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

He has made more than 400 league appearances for Sheff Wednesday and helped them win promotion back to the Championship two years ago.

Bannan graduated from Aston Villa's youth academy before breaking into the first-team.

He made 64 Premier League appearances before departing Villa Park.

Wrexham are also interested in signing Stuart Armstrong, who is a free agent after being released by Sheff Wednesday.

He signed a short-term deal with the club during the January transfer window.

The 33-year-old, who has 51 caps for Scotland, can offer Premier League and Championship experience.
