Wrexham owner gives huge update on the club's talks with former Arsenal player, confirms a deal is close

Wrexham have been linked with a former Arsenal player.

Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney has given a big update on the club’s transfer business.

After successfully securing back-to-back promotions, Wrexham are now gearing up for life in the third tier of English football.

Looking ahead to the summer transfer window, Wrexham have been linked with signing former Arsenal player Arthur Okonkwo, who spent the 23/24 season on loan with the Red Dragons.

The 22-year-old, who played 40 matches across all competitions for Wrexham last season is now a free agent after being released by Arsenal.

Okonkwo was one of 22 players released by the North London club after their retained list was confirmed.

Speaking recently to talkSPORT, McElhenney gave an update on Wrexham’s bid to sign Okonkwo.

He said: “There’s a very good chance. We’re talking to Arthur actively right now, we know he wants to come back to Wrexham and we definitely want him.

“It’s just about working out the right deal that works for everybody.”

When asked about the club’s other plans for the summer transfer window, McElhenney replied: “We’re about to find that out this week.

“We go to Wrexham very soon and we’re going to sit down and talk about that with Phil [Parkinson].”

McElhenney was at West Ham United’s London Stadium as he threw the first pitch at the MLB London Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets.

He said: “This is my time in the London Stadium - it’s gorgeous.

“West Ham plays here? I know it’ll be a few years, but hopefully we’ll see Wrexham play here against West Ham at some point.”
