A bombshell report has provided new details of how Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s involvement with Wrexham may look moving forward.

Reynolds, 48, and McElhenney, also 48, took ownership of the then-fifth-tier club in February 2021.

The pair have since overseen Wrexham secure three consecutive promotions, the latest of which came in April, securing their spot in the 2025/26 Championship.

The club will likely look to bolster their squad ahead of what promises to be a historic season at the Racecourse.

Last month, Wrexham released eight players, including former Sunderland and Burnley striker Steven Fletcher.

Several other ex-Premier League stars, such as James McClean and Jay Rodriguez, remain at the club with Jamie Vardy, Tom Cairney, Ben Davies, and even soon-to-be out-of-contract Man United midfielder Christian Eriksen linked with potential moves to the Red Dragons in recent weeks.

Of course, head coach Phil Parkinson and the players should be credited with the on-pitch success, but there’s no doubting the impact Reynolds and McElhenney have had on Wrexham as a football club and a city.

But what does the future hold for them, and do they have the funds to make Wrexham competitive in the Championship and possibly the Premier League?

Well, as reported by Bloomberg this week, Wrexham “are considering selling a stake for a valuation of up to £350 million ($475 million), people familiar with the matter said.

“The club is working with investment bank advisers to canvas demand from potential investors, according to the people, who asked not to be identified discussing confidential information.

“Internal talks are focused on how to raise capital to help Wrexham compete in the EFL Championship, the division to which it has just been promoted for the first time in more than 40 years. The Championship sits one tier below the Premier League in English football”.

The club's hierarchy have made no secret about the need for investment ahead of a push for Premier League promotion.

Humphrey Ker, the club's community director, explained how the side's wage bill will be at least four times more in the Championship than League One.

"It will come with a big challenge because suddenly we will need to probably quadruple our playing budget easily just to have a shot at staying in the Championship," Ker told High Performance in May.

“If you want to finish mid-table, upper mid-table, you’re talking about 6x something like that what we’re doing and if you want to get in the Premier League it’s 10x pretty much."
