Roma 'would consider signing Mason Greenwood' from Manchester United

Roma are reportedly considering a move.

Serie A club Roma 'would consider' signing Mason Greenwood from Manchester United, a new report has claimed.

United confirmed in an official statement on Monday that, after the club completed an internal investigation into his conduct, the 21-year-old will leave United via mutual consent.

In the meantime, Greenwood will not be allowed to return to training at Carrington, as the club weigh up whether they can sell him permanently, or loan him out. His contract expires in 2025.

Greenwood was suspended by United in January 2022 following his arrest on suspicion of rape and assault. He was subsequently charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The charges were discontinued in February, with the CPS stating that a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was 'no longer a realistic prospect of conviction'.

After an internal investigation lasting six months, United have now reached their decision, with both the club and Greenwood now seeking to complete a transfer or loan deal away from Old Trafford.

A new report claims that one location could become an option.

Roma 'would consider' signing Mason Greenwood

According to talkSPORT, Roma 'would consider' signing Greenwood from United.

It is claimed that they are just one of the Italian clubs that would be interested in signing him, with the forward having been linked with a move to Serie A on more than one occasion during United's internal investigation.

Meanwhile, 90min report that, via sources, Roma have contacted the club over Greenwood, although the extent of any interest the club has in the forward is unclear.

Roma are managed by Jose Mourinho, who was in charge of United at the time that Greenwood signed his first professional contract in October 2018.

However, the 21-year-old did not make his senior debut until after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge at Old Trafford.

The Athletic, meanwhile, previously reported that United rejected offers for Greenwood from Turkish sides while their internal investigation was taking place.
