European giants 'plot shock move' for Mason Greenwood as sporting director refuses to rule out Man Utd signing

European giants 'plot shock move' for Mason Greenwood as sporting director refuses to rule out Man Utd signing

Mason Greenwood spent the 23/24 season on loan at La Liga side Getafe.

Mason Greenwood is reportedly being targeted by a European giant ahead of the summer transfer window.

At the start of the 23/24 season, it was confirmed that Greenwood and Manchester United have mutually agreed that the 22-year-old would continue his career away from Old Trafford.

Greenwood was the subject of an internal investigation held by United after the Crown Prosecution Service dropped its case against him for attempted rape, assault, and coercive control.

On transfer deadline day, Greenwood confirmed a loan move to Spanish La Liga side Getafe.

The 22-year-old had a decent season out in Spain after scoring 10 goals and assisting six in 26 matches across all competitions.

As a result of his performances, Greenwood was named Getafe’s Player of the Season.

Looking ahead to the summer transfer window, it has been claimed that a Champions League club could offer Greenwood a way out of United.

As reported by the Daily Mail, German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund are interested in Greenwood and are set to make a decision on the forward after this weekend’s Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Speaking ahead of the final, Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl said: “I don't want to talk about any rumours at the moment because it doesn't make sense. Let's play the final on Saturday first.

“Of course, we have plans for next season and we have discussed many scenarios but let's focus on Saturday and then we'll see how we move on.”

When asked about Greenwood, Kehl replied: “I don't want to talk about that now.”

After playing what could potentially be his last game for Getafe, Greenwood wrote on social media: “Incredibly grateful to the Getafe family and fans for an amazing season. Thank you for making me feel welcomed and one of your own. I enjoyed every second, alongside my team-mates and club.

“A bittersweet ending, but it was a pleasure to play for you. I wish you all the best.”
