Man Utd lining up January move for £50 million-rated Serie A defender

Manchester United are eyeing defensive reinforcements.

Manchester United are lining up a January move for a Serie A defender, according to reports.

Erik ten Hag will be looking for reinforcements in the next transfer window following his side's underwhelming start to the season.

The Red Devils have already suffered four defeats in the Premier League and have lost their opening two fixtures in the Champions League.

In doing so, Ten Hag's team have shipped in a whopping 12 goals in the league and a further seven goals in Europe.

He's keen to strengthen his defence, with Team Talk claiming the Dutchman is eyeing Inter Milan's Federico Dimarco.

Ten Hag has drawn up a shortlist of targets and he's very keen to bring in a number of players when the transfer window reopens.

Dimarco, a left-back by trade, is admired by the Man United boss and has been shortlisted by the recruitment team.

Team Talk sources claim that they have watched him on several occasions and are keen to strike a deal in January.

Man United, however, face stiff competition to acquire his services as Real Madrid and Napoli are also keepings tabs on Dimarco.

Inter are reluctant to sell their star defender and want to prolong his stay at the San Siro, with the club wanting a reported £50 million for the player if they decide to sell him.

The 25-year-old graduated from Inter's youth academy and has spent the majority of his career with the Italian side.

He's enjoyed loan spells at Ascoli, Empoli, Parma and Hellas Verona before cementing his spot at Inter.

The Italy international has played 107 games for the club, scoring nine goals - and played in his country's 3-1 defeat to England.
