Man Utd keen on signing Real Madrid star to replace 'flop' after running out of patience

Man Utd keen on signing Real Madrid star to replace 'flop' after running out of patience

Manchester United could be set for a busy summer transfer window.

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing a Real Madrid star to replace one of their flops.

Last summer, United spent big money to bring in the likes of Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund as Erik ten Hag looked to build a squad capable of challenging at the top.

However, the 23/24 season has been one to forget for the Red Devils as they currently sit sixth in the Premier League, 13 points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa.

In Europe, they suffered a humiliating group stage exit in the Champions League after finishing behind Bayern Munich, FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

Looking ahead to the summer transfer window, it has been claimed that United could be targeting a new goalkeeper due to Onana’s inconsistency shown this season.

As reported by Fichajes, United are keen on Madrid’s Andriy Lunin, who has emerged this season due to the long-term injury suffered by Thibaut Courtois.

Lunin has kept 12 clean sheets in 28 matches this season as he has played a key role in Madrid’s success.

Los Blancos are closing on the La Liga title and are the firm favourites to lift a 15th Champions League trophy.

The report stated that despite bringing in Onana and Turkish stopper Altay Bayindir last summer, United are keen to sign a new goalkeeper as they are not entirely confident about Onana due to his performances this season.

Onana was at fault on Saturday when United were held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley at Old Trafford.

The former Inter Milan stopper fouled Burnley man Zeki Amdouni inside the penalty area with 85 minutes on the clock, which led to Vincent Kompany’s men equalising from 12 yards.

Speaking after the match, midfielder Christian Eriksen said: “Well, obviously, we had the three points in our hand.

“And going into the last minutes of ordinary time, I think we should be able to keep a clean sheet and then get the three points.”

United are back in Premier League action next Monday when they take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
