Steven Gerrard insists he wouldn't sign Mo Salah at Al Ettifaq even if he could

Gerrard has spoken out.

Steven Gerrard has revealed that he would not sign Liverpool star Mohamed Salah for Al Ettifaq - even if he had the chance to.

Gerrard's new club have already completed the signing of former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson after handing him a 'life changing' contract.

The signing of the 33-year-old is part of a major recruitment drive from the Saudi Pro League, with the league aiming to attract high-profile stars to Saudi Arabia.

But while the likes of Henderson, Karim Benzema and Sadio Mane have all accepted big-money offers from the league, they haven't been successful in convincing other players.

Al Hilal had a world-record bid of £259 million accepted by PSG for Kylian Mbappe, but ESPN claimed that the France forward rejected the opportunity to speak with the club's representatives.

Salah had also been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, although his agent confirmed on Twitter on Monday that his client was fully committed to Liverpool.

Now, Gerrard has outlined the reasons why he wouldn't sign the winger even if he was available.

Steven Gerrard on Mo Salah signing

Speaking to local media, the Liverpool legend was asked about whether he would consider signing Salah for Al Ettifaq after the completion of the Henderson deal.

He replied bluntly: "No. The answer is no.

"Mohamed Salah is my favourite player. I love Liverpool Football Club, so Mohamed can stay where he is.

"[He can join] when he wins more leagues and Champions Leagues with Liverpool, we'll maybe consider it."

Along with Henderson, Al Ettifaq have also completed several signings from the European market.

Former Celtic and Fulham striker Moussa Dembele has joined the club following the expiry of his Lyon contract, while German attacking midfielder Amin Younes has returned to Saudi Arabia following a loan spell at Utrecht.

Al Ettifaq's other big-money outlay has seen Scotland international centre-back Jack Hendry join the club following a successful spell at Belgian Pro League side Club Brugge.

But Salah will not be joining them at Al Ettifaq - at least not in the short-term future.
