Arsenal are reportedly ready to hijack Liverpool’s deal to bring in an alternative to Moises Caicedo.

During the summer transfer window, Liverpool agreed a British record £110 million fee with Brighton and Hove Albion for midfielder Caicedo.

However, the Anfield club failed to get the deal across the line after Caicedo himself opted to join Chelsea.

In the end, the Stamford Bridge club forked out £115 million to bring in the Ecuador international.

As an alternative to Caicedo, Liverpool have reportedly been tracking Fluminense’s Brazilian midfielder Andre.

According to This Is Anfield, Liverpool had a bid of £25 million rejected by the Brazilian club during the summer but are keen to sign the player in January.

However, according to journalist Thiago Ferreira, Arsenal have now entered the race to sign him.

He wrote: “Arsenal are interested in Andre and will try to cross Liverpool for him.”

This comes after Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu, visited Fluminense’s training ground on Friday. The reason for the visit was reportedly to learn more about the club’s youth system and continue a partnership between the two clubs.

Andre has been linked with a move away from Fluminense for a long while but the club are hopeful of keeping the player for as long as possible.

Brazilian journalist Josue Seixas told TIA: “The team (Fluminense) would not work if he was not available, I think they will try to hold him as long as possible, which is December, the end of the Brazilian season.”

Liverpool underwent a midfield revamp during the summer after losing the likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Naby Keita.

Jurgen Klopp brought in four new midfielders in Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.
