Manchester City are set to earn a transfer windfall should Liverpool sign Leroy Sane in a club-record deal, according to reports.

The Mirror has claimed Liverpool are targeting Bayern Munich star Sane, as the Reds prepare for life without Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian recieved interest from the Saudi Pro League in the summer, and was the subject of a verbal offer worth up to £150million from Al Ittihad which was turned down by Liverpool.

With the Saudi league set to renew its interest in Salah in the coming transfer window, Liverpool are allegedly keen to break their transfer record to land Sane.

The winger was signed for Bayern from City back in 2020 having netted 39 goals and 46 assists in 135 games in England.

Sane has been in electric form this term, having scored seven goals in 11 games for the Bavarian giants and in turn, has attracted interest from Liverpool.

The Mirror claim Liverpool are willing to break the £80million transfer record they spent on Darwin Nunez to land Sane, despite the German’s contract with Bayern set to expire in 2025.

Such a move would see City earn a hefty transfer windfall, with Manchester Evening News having claimed they inserted a 10 per cent sell-on clause in the deal that sent Sane to Germany - astute business given Sane only had a year on his deal at the time.

He has endured a mixed time at Bayern but still racked up 45 goals and 37 assists in 144 games – a very similar record to what he achieved at City.

The attacker has enjoyed his football under Thomas Tuchel in particular.

“Thomas is incredibly meticulous about his work and leaves as little as possible to chance,” he told Bild in August.

“He took over at a difficult time when things were turbulent around us. I’m sure that we are on the right track with him and that he is exactly the right coach for FC Bayern.

“I talk to him a lot. He gives me a very good feeling and I feel a lot of trust. I know myself that I could have scored a few more goals last season, there’s no doubt about that.”
