Ademola Lookman’s transfer request could be good news for Liverpool as they look to sell Italian forward Federico Chiesa.

The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to pastures new after a busy summer transfer window for The Reds, which has seen them sign big names like Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike.

Most fans would assume the former Everton, Leicester City, and Fulham forward’s decision to hand in a transfer request would have very little impact on a move away for Chiesa.

However, with Lookman’s current side Atalanta supposedly interested in securing the Italian’s signature, his decision could prove to be crucial.

"I have loved every moment but feel that now, after three wonderful years in Bergamo, it is the right time to move on and experience a new adventure,” read Lookman’s statement.

"There have been numerous clubs approach Atalanta in the past and I have previously always stayed loyal.

"However, myself and the ownership of the club have been in agreement that now is the right time and the club were clear with me that if a fair offer came in they would allow me to move.

"Despite now receiving an offer in alignment to what I believe had been discussed sadly the club are blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand.

"As a result and after many months of broken promises and what I feel has been poor treatment towards me as both a human being and as a professional footballer, sadly I feel I have no choice but to speak out for what I believe is right and feel that enough is enough.

"I can confirm I have now handed in a formal transfer request.”

If Lookman leaves the Italian club this summer, than that would free up funds and a place in the team for them to swoop in and sign Chiesa.

Arne Slot’s side have also added Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi, Freddie Woodman, and Will Wright to their ranks this summer.

The summer transfer window is not over yet, though, and reports in the press are suggesting that Liverpool are interested in Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

Chiesa has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League, scoring two goals and providing two assists in 14 appearances last term.
