A Premier League club reportedly had a deal lined up to sign Cole Palmer from Manchester City before his Chelsea move.

Back in the summer transfer window, Cole left City for Stamford Bridge in a deal worth a reported fee of £45 million.

So far this season, the Englishman has recorded 25 goals and 13 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea.

Last time out, Palmer netted four goals during Chelsea’s 6-0 win over Everton.

However, things could have turned out so different for Palmer as he could’ve been playing for another Premier League club.

According to West Ham United’s vice-chairperson Karren Brady, who wrote in her column for The Sun: “From all the newsreels I’ve seen, Cole is as cool a dude in front of goal as Jimmy Greaves himself.

“Which is probably why David Moyes tried very hard to sign him. We even had a deal agreed with City until Chelsea swooped.”

Speaking this week, City boss Pep Guardiola was asked whether he regrets letting Palmer leave after his impressive performances this season.

He said: “In pre-season I said stay because Riyad [Mahrez] has gone and he said 'no, I want to leave’. After two seasons, what could I say?

“He was asking for two seasons to leave. I said 'no, stay'. What could we do?”

Guardiola continued: “I said many times, I didn't give him the minutes that he maybe deserved and wanted, the minutes he now has at Chelsea.

“I understand that completely. I am happy for him because he is a lovely guy. He is playing good and is an incredible threat.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino said: “He(Palmer) always talks very highly about them and Pep.

“I think he understood perfectly that maybe for different reasons he wanted to prove himself in another club.”

Chelsea are in FA Cup action this weekend as they take on holders City at Wembley.
