The 10 most overpriced signings of the summer transfer window have been revealed.
Business data site Football Benchmark has analysed the summer transfer window and calculated the most overpriced signings of the transfer window so far.
When analysing the transfers, the organisation looked at how the player in question’s last available market value at the selling club compares to how much the buyer eventually paid for them this summer.

Indeed, the market value estimation is based on comparable deals in the past, the quality of the player’s recent on-pitch performances, their position, age and contract situation.
At the top of Football Benchmark’s list of overpriced transfers is Moises Caicedo, who signed for Chelsea from Brighton for a British record fee of £115million. The Blues paid £100million to Brighton for the Ecuador international, plus £15million in performance-related add-ons
However, Caicedo’s market value at the start of the transfer window was reportedly £65million, which indicates an overpayment of £35million on the initial fee alone.
In second place is Declan Rice, for whom Arsenal shelled out an initial £100million, with £5million set to be paid in add-ons. Rice’s market value was £66.22million, at the start of the window given he had just 12 months left of his West Ham contract, with an option for a further year.
Third and fourth on the list are Neymar and Ruben Neves who both secured moves to Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal. The former moved to the club for an initial £77million, despite having a £43million market value while Neves was signed for £47million despite his £27million valuation.

In fifth is Romeo Lavia, with Chelsea having secured the defensive midfielder for an initial £53million from Southampton, which is a surplus of £18.5million.
El Bilal Toure’s move to Atalanta is the sixth biggest overpay with the player having cost £23million despite a £6million market value at the start of the window.
Meanwhile, Aleksandar Mitrovic’s move to Al Hilal cost an initial £45million, which is £17million more than his value.
Eighth is Lesley Ugochukwu’s £23million move to Chelsea despite the player's £6.7million market value at the start of the window.

Of course, it is important to consider that with regards to Touré and Ugochukwu clubs are paying for players’ future potential. The Football Benchmark is mainly basing values on past sporting statistics, so future expectations carry less weight.
Ninth on the list is Harry Kane, who signed for Bayern for an initial £85million despite being 30 and in the last year of his Tottenham contract. The fee for the England captain represents an overspend of £15million.
And rounding off the top ten is Tino Livramento whose £31million move to Newcastle was overpriced by 13.2million, according to the metric.
