Why Alexander Isak hasn't handed in official transfer request to leave Newcastle for Liverpool

Alexander Isak has pushed for a move away from Newcastle United but has yet to hand in a transfer request.

Alexander Isak is trying to force a move to Liverpool this summer but has yet to hand in an official transfer request and here's why.

Isak's name continues to dominate the summer transfer window as he seeks a stunning move away from Newcastle United, with Liverpool expected to submit another bid.

He has gone on strike and didn't travel to Villa Park for his side's Premier League opener against Aston Villa, with the travelling fans taking aim at their player with a derogatory chant.

On Tuesday, the Swede was named in the PFA Team of the Year, but he didn't attend the ceremony in Manchester.

He explained his absence before claiming 'promises have been broken' in a bombshell social media statement.

Newcastle themselves responded to Isak speaking out on his transfer saga by issuing a statement of their own.

Why Alexander Isak has not handed in a transfer request at Newcastle?

Isak does not see a future for himself at St. James Park and claims 'trust is lost'.

A transfer request appears to be the next logical step after burning his bridges with the club and the fans.

While Isak has informally requested a transfer, he has not yet handed in an official request, which can come in a form of a legal document and would outline a desire to breach the terms of their employment.

According to The Standard, a transfer request has some 'knock-on effects'.

In some cases, it means forfeiting 'significant contractual perks', such as signing-on fees and loyalty bonuses.

Per the report, 'the financial impact would likely have been considered by the player and/or his representatives'.

Clubs, however, are also under no obligation to accept a transfer request.

Despite the 25-year-old's stance, there is no guarantee he signs for Liverpool, who have splashed the cash this summer, having snapped up the likes of Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike.

The Standard suggests Isak could end up staying at Newcastle when the transfer window shuts and works his way back into the team.
