Six players Wrexham could sign after sealing promotion to League Two

Wrexham sealed their promotion back to the English Football League on Saturday

Wrexham will be targeting a few marquee signings after they sealed their return to the English Football League on Saturday.

In front of a packed crowd at The Racecourse, Wrexham produced a determined performance to come from 1-0 down to record a 3-1 victory over Boreham Wood.

As a result, they clinched their place in League Two for next season.

Backed by their Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham will now plan to build a squad good enough to challenge in League Two.

Here are six players the Welsh club could target in the summer transfer window.

1. Gareth Bale

What a signing this would be for Wrexham if they manage to lure the former Real Madrid star out of retirement.

After Bale congratulated Wrexham on their promotion, McElhenney replied with: “Hey Gareth Bale, let’s play golf, where I totally won’t spend 4 hours trying to convince you to un-retire for one last magical season.”

2. Danny Rose

Former Tottenham Hotspur fullback Rose is currently without a club after leaving Watford in 2022.

In a recent appearance on Sky Sports, Rose admitted that he misses playing football after deliberately taking time away from the sport.

3. Macaulay Langstaff

The Notts County striker had hoped to dash Wrexham’s automatic promotion dreams but ultimately failed.

The 26-year-old is the top scorer in the National League after scoring 40 in 43 matches. Could Wrexham rub salt in County wounds by luring their star man to Wales?

4. Daniel Sturridge

Former Liverpool and England star Sturridge has been a free agent since leaving Australian side Perth Glory in 2022.

Still only 33 years old, Sturridge can for sure do a job for Wrexham if he can stay fit.

5. Hal Robson Kanu

Robson Kanu retired in 2021 but has recently sparked rumours of a return after he replied to one of Reynolds’ posts.

The former Wales international wrote: “I'll come out of retirement and come and play for Wrexham next season. I'll also give my salary to the charity of the fans choosing.”

6. Phil Jones

Remember him? Manchester United’s forgotten man’s contract at Old Trafford will expire at the end of the 22/23 season.

Although it will be a tough ask, the prospect of playing for Wrexham might appeal to the 31-year-old, whose last appearance for United was in May 2022, a 3-0 win over Brentford.

Who do you think Wrexham should sign in the summer transfer window? Let us know in the comments.
