Rob McElhenney has made a huge offer to Gareth Bale, in order to convince the former Real Madrid star out of retirement to play for Wrexham.

Everyone at Wrexham AFC must be riding on the crest of a wave right now, after the team confirmed their promotion back to League Two on Saturday evening.

Next season they will return to the Football League after 15 years, with the emotion of the moment captured perfectly by Ben Foster's chest cam,

The goalkeeper came out of retirement to play for the team for the final few weeks of the season, and made a huge impact on the campaign.

And now McElhenney wants to pull off a similar trick, but in a much more higher profile way, by getting Wales legend Bale to come play for them, after the 33-year-old sent the team a message following their title win, as you can see in the video below.

The Always Sunny in Philadelphia star, and co-owner of the Red Dragons, responded by saying, "Hey Gareth Bale, let’s play golf, where I totally won’t spend 4 hours trying to convince you to un-retire for one last magical season."

Bale hung up his boots at the beginning of the year, after Wales had failed in their World Cup campaign, going out in the Group Stages, following a poor showing.

The former Tottenham Hotspur star had been playing for LAFC in the MLS before his retirement, and helped them win the MLS Cup last year.

He has already been offered the chance to continue having a career with the national team by manager Robert Page, though it wasn't confirmed in what capacity.

The former forward was then given a 'spine tingling' reception during the Euro 2024 qualifier between Wales and Latvia, as a farewell from the fans.

McElhenney better be wary of betting a potential return to football for the former most expensive player in the world on a round of golf.

Bale has had compliments from Masters champion Jon Rahm and has made his debut at a PGA event, making an incredible shot in the process.

He may not be the only former Wales icon to come and play for Wrexham next season however, with Hal Robson-Kanu offering his services.

The forward, who famously scored against Belgium in the 2016 Euros, has said he would play for the soon to be League Two side for free, donating his wages to charity.
