Wild stoppage time melee in River Plate vs Boca Juniors sees SEVEN players sent off

The usual melee happened in the Superclasico between River Plate and Boca Juniors, resulting in a ridiculous SEVEN cards in stoppage time.

The rivalry between River and Boca is one of the most heated in world football and there are always fireworks whenever they lock horns.

Ahead of one meeting, a house got burned down after two rival fans got into a disagreement - underling how deep the disdain is.

It regularly erupts on the pitch and that is exactly what happened in the dying embers of the latest fixture.

River striker Miguel Borja scored the winner from the spot in the 93rd minute and sparked wild celebrations at the the packed-out Estadio Monumental.

But then it all kicked off on the pitch. Boca's goalkeeper Sergio Romero appeared to take issue with the celebrations and raced over to confront River players.

The cameras panned from the celebrations to the crazy brawl which immediately ensued, with both benches rushing onto the pitch as tempers flared.

A total of seven red cards were dished out. Agustin Palavecino, Ezequiel Ignacio Centurion and Elias Gomez were all dismissed for River, with Miguel Merentiel, Ezequiel Fernandez and Nicolas Valentini of Boca also sent off for their part in the brawl.

Boca manager Jorge Almiron also saw red, while there ended up being an insane 19 minutes of stoppage time as a result of the scuffle.

River captain Enzo Perez condemned the behaviour afterwards and said it was "not good for the spectacle".

As per Goal, he said: "Terrible madness came out from all sides, and luckily we were able to keep three important points in a Superclasico. It is not good for the spectacle.

"There were a lot of people who got involved from both sides, the coaching staff, players who were not in the squad. We try to separate, calm down, so that some go one way and others the other, but when there are so many people who don't have to be on the pitch, with the nervousness from outside, it's difficult.”

River are nine points clear at the top of the table, but Boca are a staggering 19 points behind their rivals and currently occupy 13th spot.
