Rio Ferdinand left the TNT Sports studio during Newcastle United's 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday evening.

The Manchester United legend was present for the pre-match build-up at the Parc des Princes but was nowhere to be seen post-match.

Jermaine Jenas and Ally McCoist were tasked with analysing a frantic night of action in the French capital.

After discussing United's trip to Turkey to face Galatasaray on Wednesday evening, presenter Laura Woods issued an update on Ferdinand's whereabouts.

She said: "Rio would be here to chat about Manchester United now, but we had to let him go [due to] unforeseen circumstances. He is okay, don't worry."

United are bottom of Group A, and a defeat to Galatasaray would eliminate them from the Champions League.

Newcastle's fate also hangs in the balance after a controversial handball decision went against them in the dying embers.

Alexander Isak's first-half goal looked to be enough for the Magpies to move second in Group F.

However, PSG were awarded a penalty in the 98th minute after Tino Livramento was judged to have handled an Ousmane Dembele cross.

Referee Szymon Marciniak initially ignored protests from PSG players, but VAR intervened to hand PSG a spot kick.

Kylian Mbappe stepped up to fire past Nick Pope and salvage a point for Luis Enrique's side.

Jenas, a former Newcastle player, claimed they'd been robbed by the decision in a furious rant.

He said: "What is Livramento meant to do with his arms? Wrap them round his back?

"I’m fuming. The players threw everything at it and it should have been one of those historic wins. Newcastle have been robbed."

Newcastle's destiny is now out of their own hands ahead of matchday six in two weeks time.

They need to beat AC Milan and hope PSG drop points against Borussia Dortmund, who've already qualified.
