Wolves Make Vitor Pereira Sack Decision After Altercation With Fans

Vitor Pereira is under pressure after a 3-2 defeat to newly-promoted Burnley.

Wolves have decided on Vitor Pereira's future after an altercation with fans following another defeat at Molineux.

The 3-2 loss to newly-promoted Burnley leaves Wolves as the only winless side across England's top four leagues after nine games.

Burnley struck twice in the opening 30 minutes through Zian Flemming, before goals from Jorgen Strand Larsen and Marshall Munetsi levelled the scores before the break.

But Lyle Foster scored in the fifth additional minute of second-half stoppage time for Burnley, to pile the pressure on Pereira.

The Portuguese head coach, who signed a new three-year deal at Wolves in September, let his frustrations boil over at full-time with supporters.

Wolves fans had sung against the board during the match but, following the latest defeat, they turned their attention to Pereira with chants of 'getting sacked in the morning'.

In his post-match press conference, Pereira said: “We understand the frustration of the people and supporters but, what I must say, if we fight united with them, we can win games and compete and achieve our targets, without them it is impossible.

“If we win two or three games in a row, things will change.

Pereira replaced Gary O'Neil in December 2024, inheriting a side sitting 19th in the Premier League.

He guided them to safety as they finished 16th, 17 points clear of relegation.

During the summer, Wolves lost two of their best players in Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri to Manchester United and Manchester City and have struggled to replace such influential figures as they currently sit bottom of the table, six points from safety.

Pereira continued: “Two months ago they sing my name, because together with the work we did last season, we are competing in the Premier League and not Championship.

"Now they sing my name to sack me.”

Despite the struggles at Molineux, talkSPORT's Alex Crook reported that Pereira's position is not yet under threat.

On X, he wrote: "Wolves sources insist Vitor Pereira is not under immediate threat despite 0 wins in 9.

"Board clearly not happy with results and situation could change if they sense any dressing room unrest.

"There is also a realisation newly-promoted clubs are more competitive."

Newly-promoted trio Sunderland, Leeds and Burnley all won at the weekend, something which last season's promoted clubs did not manage once.

The three clubs already have 38 points between them from nine games, the third-best total at this point for promoted teams.

Meanwhile, Wolves have just two points so far, which is a position no club has ever survived from at this stage of the season.
