A shock report has revealed that Liverpool have been handed a massive boost in their pursuit of Newcastle United star Alexander Isak.

Despite securing a club record £116million transfer for former Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz alongside moves for Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, it appears Liverpool's business in the transfer window isn't done.

While a deal for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is believed to be possible, it has long been reported that Newcastle United striker Isak is Arne Slot's dream signing this summer.

But Liverpool aren't the only club eager to sign a new number nine this summer, with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal also said to be eager to bring new talent to their attacking lineup.

However, United have been deal a major blow and Newcastle appear to have hijacked a deal for their top target, and it could be good news for Liverpool.

When the transfer window first opened at the beginning of June, it became clear that several of the biggest clubs in Europe were eager to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.

Initially, Chelsea, Arsenal and even Liverpool appeared to be the frontrunners for the 23-year-old, but recent reports have suggested that United may yet tempt the Frenchman with a move to Old Trafford.

But now, there has been a fresh twist in the Ekitike transfer saga, as a new report from The Telegraph has revealed that Newcastle United have rekindled their interest in talented forward.

As Ekitike currently has four years left on his deal at the Waldstadion, it is believed that Frankfurt could demand a fee of around £85 million for his signature, meaning whichever club does sign him will be committing a large part of their summer budget.

With that in mind, Newcastle's sudden pursuit of Ekitike could suggest that they expect Isak to leave the club in the coming weeks and are preparing to replace him with another top rated striker.

However, it appears that this may not be the case, at least not yet, as the report claims that Newcastle currently view Ekitike as a striker who could play alongside Isak.

The Magpies missed out on former Brighton star Joao Pedro earlier this month, after the Brazilian opted to join Chelsea instead, as they look to bring a second striker to the club following the departure of Callum Wilson.
