Kalvin Phillips says winning promotion with Leeds was better than winning the treble

Man City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is prouder of winning promotion with his boyhood club than winning a historic treble last season.

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips recently revealed what he feels the best moment of his football career is so far, and it's not the treble win with City.

Kalvin Phillips joined Man City from Leeds last summer for a fee of around £45 million after add-ons, and has managed to be part of a historic treble-winning team in just his first season as the Sky Blues won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League, the first English club to achieve this feat since their city rivals Man United did in 1999.

The 27-year-old may not as featured as much as he would have wanted to, managing just 12 appearances (including just two starts) in the Premier League and 21 in all competitions, fighting injury and fitness problems throughout the season.

The Leeds Academy Graduate recently sat down and spoke in an episode of JOE's Unfiltered podcast, saying:

“Just because I’m a Leeds boy and I played for Leeds for so many years, when we got promoted that was an unbelievable feeling. A feeling you can’t explain.

“To finally get us over the line was unbelievable. That’s definitely one of the best moments of my life so far and the next best moment was the parade the moment after we won the Treble. That was so crazy.”

Kalvin Phillips was part of the historic City treble-winning team, and will be looking to add more to his medal collection this season.

Phillips also added that on the day of the treble parade, the rainy Manchester weather only made the occasion more memorable:

“It was crazy, it was so good.

“We went out and didn’t expect it to be raining that badly and everyone was just tops off, swinging it about and it was just brilliant.”

The England international also scored his first international game in June 2023, bagging the sixth in a comfortable 7-0 win for the Three Lions over North Macedonia in their Euro 2024 qualifier.

Phillips will be hoping to carry some of that form into next season, where the midfielder will look to fend off any injury problems and make a more significant contribution, similar to the one he made at Leeds in keeping them up in 2021/22, to a City side that will be looking to retain all three of the major trophies they captured last season.
